Title
Kevin-07: The Ferry to ManlyReading Text
Episode 7: The Ferry to Manly Kevin wants to go to the beach. He walks to Circular Quay and gets on a large, green and yellow ferry. Kevin always likes looking at the water. The ferry leaves the dock. The boat moves up and down. Sometimes the water in the harbor is very bumpy! Kevin sits outside and eats a sanger. Suddenly, a white seagull lands on the railing next to him. "Give me a bite, mate!" the seagull squawks. Kevin holds his food tightly. "No way," Kevin says. "I never share my lunch with birds. You have a very sharp beak!" The seagull squawks again and flies away. Kevin laughs. He usually sleeps all afternoon, but today he is riding a boat on the sparkling ocean. šØ Aussie Talk Kevin eats a "sanger" on the ferry. A "sanger" is Australian slang for a sandwich! It is very common to hear Aussies shorten words and add an "-o" or "-er" sound to the end of them. š Grammar Spotlight Look at the words always, sometimes, never, and usually. These are Adverbs of Frequency. We use them to say how often we do something. Notice where they go in a sentence: they usually go before the main verb (e.g., "Kevin always likes...", "I never share...").
